Matt Karaban

General Manager

With a career that has ranged from busboy to general manager, Matt Karaban has gained the experience necessary to uphold Radius' decade-long tradition of four-star service and superior cuisine. A natural leader and seasoned hospitality professional, Matthew inspires the Radius staff to create unparalleled dining experiences for its guests.

Matt's hospitality career began at Carol Peck's Good News Café in Woodbury, Connecticut, an East Coast pioneer in the slow food movement with a commitment to local and organic ingredients. At the age of 16, Matt began as a busboy before transitioning to expediting and pastry, eventually climbing the ranks to server in the fast paced, fine dining restaurant. In 1999, Matt joined the front of house staff at one of Boston's foremost dining institutions, Legal Seafoods. As a server, shift leader and certified trainer, Matt gained invaluable leadership and hospitality skills, which he brought to Chef Michael Schlow's restaurant empire.

Upon the unveiling of Via Matta in 2002, Chef Michael Schlow sought out the city's best front of house staff to serve the restaurant's authentic and inspired Northern Italian cuisine. As part of this opening staff, Matt once again set a standard for hospitality as a lead server before earning a management position in 2006. After only seven months as manager, Matt was promoted to general manager, overseeing the restaurant's full operations and upholding a standard of excellent service in an energetic dining room. The success of Via Matta, measured by thousands of satisfied guests, earned Matt the opportunity to lead Chef Michael Schlow's flagship Radius.

While keeping Bostonians happy and full in his restaurants, he's also kept them entertained and dancing. Also known as DJ Mathius, Matt has been spinning house, techno, break beat and drum and bass since 1998 at local hot spots such as The Kells, Phoenix Landing, Embassy, Foundation Lounge, River Gods, and of course, Via Matta.
